The recently announced Spyro Reignited Trilogy won’t be releasing on the Switch! Does this make sense? We argue why the trilogy needs to be ported to Nintendo’s hybrid console.
Back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s the first three Spyro games released exclusively on the original PlayStation. Developed by Insomniac Games the first three Spyro games are often considered the best in the franchise. I was a proud owner of the Nintendo 64 back in those days. I remember seeing Spyro the Dragon on the PlayStation and being envious of its rich colors & atmospheric backdrops. The clever layout of the stages and the addictive collecting of many gems Spyro earned a spot in the good 3D platformer category.
It seems since the release of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy a rumored Spyro Trilogy collection has been alive on the internet everywhere. Now that the rumored trilogy has surfaced many Switch owners are surprised to see that the game won’t be releasing on the Switch. This makes less sense considering the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy was confirmed for the Switch back in March.
Does Activision Hate Nintendo?
Activision hasn’t been as kind to the Switch as it was back with the Wii and Wii U. So far the publisher has yet to release any of its top-tier franchises on the Switch. This includes what are staple items on other consoles like Call of Duty or Destiny. With the lack of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy for the Switch many Nintendo fans have reason to wonder about Activision’s stance on Nintendo platforms.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy PS4 Trailer
The Spyro Reignited Trilogy seems a perfect fit for the Switch. Nintendo’s latest home console is a popular platform for platformers of all types. Just look at games like Super Mario Odyssey, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze and Kirby Star Allies. Nintendo players love platformers like the original Spyro games.
With the huge success that Activision had with Spyro when it launched Skylanders on the Wii you’d think the publisher would be prone to releasing the Spyro trilogy on the Switch. The Skylanders series might not be a true Spyro game but it did feature Spyro on the game’s box art for many iterations. The Skylanders series sold best on the Wii. Even the Wii U had success selling Activision’s toy-to-life series of games.
