If you have a spare Sega Dreamcast VMU sitting around you may have the option of playing a ported version of Pokemon Go, no phone required. The VMU Pokemon Go is not a direct port of the popular app, but a unique take on the game. VMU stands for “Virtual Memory Unit”, and is the main memory card for the Sega Dreamcast. VMU programmer guacasaurus_mex has been making different VMU games for a while, including a port of flappy bird. The Pokemon Go port features a randomly generated map grid in place of a phone’s GPS. The port of Pokemon Go is do out next year (2017). We’re not sure what is more amazing, the fact that someone is porting Pokemon Go to the Dreamcast VMU or the fact that people still program the VMU.
guacasaurus_mex : Pokémon GO for the Sega Dreamcast VMU! Coming 2017, because I’m lazy and it’s going to take forever to draw all those damn Pokémon. Randomly generated map grid in place of GPS functionality and timing based mini game to throw Pokéballs.
