I’ve got a 750i that’s coming up on its big service and the dealer quote literally made me laugh out loud, then cry a little. I knew a V8 would be pricey to run but I wasn’t expecting that number for what is basically fluids and filters. A mate keeps telling me to look at bmw-garage.ae/luxury-service since he reckons a specialist independent will do the same job for noticeably less, but I’m wary of someone unfamiliar with these engines cutting corners on the expensive bits. What I want to know is whether people actually save meaningful money on a car like this or if the difference is small enough that the dealer is the safer bet. Also curious whether independents use the same spec oil and parts or if that’s where the savings come from. If you’ve got a V8 and moved away from the dealer, what did it actually cost you and did the car feel any different afterwards?
