Nintendo announced yesterday that Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon have become the company’s fastest selling game in North America. The latest entry into the Pokemon series has already broke other records recently, with the 3DS titles breaking pre-order records in October. In less than two weeks the games sold a combined 3.7 million copies. In comparison Sun & Moon sold 85 percent more copies in the same 2 week period over Pokemon X and Pokemon Y (which we’re Nintendo’s previous fastest selling games in North America).

“With these huge sales figures, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon have proved themselves as two of the hottest video games to buy this holiday season,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “With great reviews and outstanding fan response, these next iterations in the Pokémon series are sure to please any player in the family.”

Nintendo also updated the lifetime sales figures for the entire Pokemon series, which now sits at 280 million units sold worldwide, since the first release of Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue back in 1996. Earlier this summer a renewed interest into the Pokemon series took place with the launch of Pokemon Go for Android and iOS devices. After the release of Pokemon Go sales figures increased for Nintendo 3DS games like Pokemon X / Y and Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
