This is a list of all ESRB mature (M) rated games for the Nintendo Switch. The list will continue to be updated as additional games get released for the Switch with a mature rating. The list will be similar to our list of every ESRB ‘M’ (Mature) game list for the Wii U. There are many new games releasing on the Nintendo Switch. Bayonetta 1 & 2

Bayonetta is full of over-the-top violence, sexual references and strong language among other things. Switch owners can pick up both the original Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 in a special retail version (see below). You can also purchase them separately on the eShop. Bayonetta was one of the few M-rated exclusives to grace the Wii U. Sega and Platinum Games will also be adding Bayonetta 3 to this list when it releases as a Nintendo Switch exclusive.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

The winner of over 200+ game of the year awards is the first in the Elder Scroll series to hit a Nintendo platform. Skyrim offers players complete control and responsibility for their actions in a beautiful fantasy world. As a open-world sandbox – Skyrim naturally provides a mature experience through blood & gore as players take on dragons, giants and maybe a town guard…or two. Skyrim is also rated M by the ESRB for ‘Sexual Themes’ and the ‘Use of Alcohol’.

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+

The dungeon-crawling shooter offers over 11,000 unique room configurations, each full of m-rated content. This game is definitely designed for mature audiences, so parents beware! But for those interested in The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ for the Switch you won’t be disappointed. The addictive gameplay is complemented by crude/creepy art style and story its defiantly worth picking up. The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ is available on the Nintendo Switch eShop and as a retail (physical cartridge) version – see below.

Metropolis: Lux Obscura

Metropolis: Lux Obscura is a match-3 puzzle game with a strong focus on obscenity and sexism. The awesome looking comic artwork is complemented by a compelling story and professional voiceovers. Metropolis: Lux Obscura isn’t available just yet – but will see a release on April 4th, 2018.

Outlast 2

Releasing on March 27th, 2018 – Outlast 2 is another AAA mature game making its way to the Nintendo Switch. As a survival horror, Outlast 2 earns its mature rating for intense violence and blood & gore. Only available on the Switch eShop, Outlast 2 is also budget friendly – selling for $29.99 on the eShop. Slayaway Camp: Butcher’s Cut

On its Nintendo game details page, Slayaway Camp: Butcher’s Cut calls itself “The most violentest puzzle game ever made”. Slayaway plays like a sliding puzzle game, with a violent 80’s horror movie art style. Each of its 300 isometric puzzles promises to be filled with gory violence. Like Outlast 2, Slayaway Camp: Butcher’s Cut isn’t available just yet. The game will release on the Switch eShop on March 22nd, 2018 for $14.99.

Attack on Titan 2

Based on the hit TV series, Attack on Titan 2 is developed by KOEI TECMO GAMES, which is known for many other M rated games – Ninja Gaiden series for instance. Like other games on this list, Attack on Titan 2 isn’t available yet – but releases on March 20th, 2018. Players will take control of omni-directional mobility gear to fight the Titans.

The Long Reach

Inspired by other games like “Lone Survivor” and “The Cave” – The Long Reach is an adventure game that takes place in present day. The game releases next week, March 15th, 2018 on the Nintendo Switch eShop.

The Men of Yoshiwara: Ohgiya

The Men of Yoshiwara: Ohgiya is a romance game originating from Japan. Its targeted towards a female audience. With a focus on a heart-rending love story, this is an interesting release for a Nintendo platform. It earns its M rating from the obvious sexual content. The game is available now on the Nintendo Switch eShop.

Fear Effect Sedna

A stealth/action game by Square-Enix, Fear Effect Sedna offers the Switch yet another quality game geared towards mature gamers. As an action/strategy/puzzle game players will utilize a wide array of weapons in this turn-based game. Fear Effect Sedna is available now on the Nintendo Switch eShop.

A Normal Lost Phone

Sitting in the Puzzle/Board Game/ Adventure genre, A Normal Lost Phone is a game that doesn’t look like it deserves its M-rating at first glance. A Normal Lost Phone attempts to bridge the gap between reality and fiction through a fake smart phone interface and a realistic story. A Normal Lost Phone also supports the Nintendo Switch’s Joy-Con HD Rumble!

Detention

Detention is a 2D horror side-scrolling game centered on the 1960’s Taiwan Martial Law incident. Based on Taiwanese/East Asian culture- Detention provides a truly eerie horror experience. Available now on the Nintendo Switch eShop.

Outlast: Bundle of Terror

Available on the Nintendo Switch eShop, Outlast: Bundle of Terror is another survival horror game by Red Barrels. The amazing/liquid-smooth graphics help propel the game’s intense violence and gore to new heights on the Switch.

PAYDAY 2

PAYDAY 2 provides the Nintendo Switch with one of its first four-player co-op shooters that carries a mature rating from the ESRB. Supporting a variety of Nintendo Switch centric features (like touch screen menu support), PAYDAY 2 is a strong title for the Switch library of M-rated games. PAYDAY 2 is available as an eShop download or as a physical retail (cartridge) version – see below.

Hollow

Hollow has players assume the role of a pilot that transports precious resources from a mining ship called Shakhter-One to Earth. An emergency leaves you in a drifting space capsule just outside the mining facility. Playing as a first-person experience, Hollow provides plenty of action, intrigue and adventure to please even the most seasoned gamer. Available now on the Nintendo Switch eShop.

 Layers of Fear: Legacy

A psychological horror game with strong psychedelic themes, Layers of Fear: Legacy is another M-rated horror game for the Nintendo Switch. The story centers on a mad painter striving to create his Magnum Opus. A dark story about his past is revealed via a constantly changing-house full of the supernatural. Layers of Fear: Legacy is available on the Nintendo Switch eShop now.

 The Men of Yoshiwara: Kikuya

Another romance game for women, The Men of Yoshiwara: Kikuya is another love adventure published by D3Publisher. It earns it’s M-rating for obvious sexual content. As a surprise the game also has a disclaimer for violence. Hmmm…interesting?

BRAWL

A 4-player fighting/party game, BRAWL was released earlier this year on the eShop. Over 20 different maps provide a variety of scenarios among its 5 different game modes. BRAWL gives many nods to the Bomberman series – with grid-based maps and many similar power-ups. But unlike Bomberman’s cute art style BRAWL provides a violent-gory graphical look sure to please mature gamers looking for multiplayer mayhem.

Furi

The Nintendo Switch has been gaining plenty of ports from PC-Steam and mobile devices. One of these is Furi, an action fighting game that makes use of dual-stick shooting mechanics. The game utilizes a neat color style along with creative boss design by Takashi Okazaki. Furi is available on the Nintendo Switch eShop now.

Bloody Zombies

A zombie take on the classic co-op brawler, Bloody Zombies supports 1-4 players using all the Nintendo Switch controller configurations. Over 30 different types of zombies await you and your friends, making it a fun couch co-op game perfect for the Switch. Bloody Zombies is available now on the eShop.

The End Is Nigh

Available as both digital (eShop download) & retail (boxed cartridge) version, The End Is Nigh earns a mature rating for bad language. Over 600 levels of collecting video game cartridges and tumors, this according to the game’s official Nintendo details page. The End Is Nigh is a adventure/platformer game with plenty of content to satisfy the overachiever in you!

Slain: Back From Hell

A action adventure game similar to Castlevania, Slain: Back From Hell is set in a Gothic world. The hack and slash gameplay is complemented by plenty of blood & gore. Music is recorded by Curt Victor Bryant (Celtic Frost). Slain: Back From Hell is available on the Nintendo Switch eShop now.

Developed by iFun4All S.A., Serial Cleaner is a 1-player action game. Play as a character called “The Cleaner”, as you clean up messes caused by the mob. The bloody evidence at the crime scenes earns this game its M rating.

Resident Evil Revelations 1, 2 & Collection

Capcom’s Resident Evil Revelations series is fully available on the Nintendo Switch. The Revelations series contains all the classic zombie killing violence that the series is known for. The Switch version supports 1-2 players and supports online player. You can pick up the retail physical version of Resident Evil Revelations (see below). You also have the choice of purchasing the original Resident Evil Revelations or Revelations 2 separately on the Nintendo eShop.

Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow Comes Today

Playing as a “man with no past”, Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow Comes Today is a adventure game that tells a fairly mature story. A variety of clever puzzles and good story telling help set this game apart. Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow Comes Today is available now on the Nintendo Switch eShop.

Batman – The Telltale Series

A new mature Batman game, The Telltale Series brings the Dark Knight to the Nintendo Switch. The Switch version includes all five episodes of the first season. Available in both retail-physical & digital-eShop forms.

L.A. Noire

Rockstar’s first game on a Nintendo system since the Wii/DS era, L.A. Noire is another M-rated game available now on the Nintendo Switch. L.A. Noire takes place in a post-war Hollywood. Playing as a detective investigating a variety of crimes, L.A. Noire earns its rating with the brutal violence often associated with gang/mob crimes.

DOOM

Since the early 90’s DOOM has been a poster child of violent video-gaming. DOOM is one of the only first person shooters that has an online multiplayer component. Up to 12 players can take part in matchmaking modes like team deathmatch. DOOM includes all the blood and gore often associated with the series. Another horror/psychological thriller, Perception takes place in-and-around a creepy mansion. Uncover the mysteries of different generations that inhabited the mansion as you play as a blind woman set on discovering the truth behind the estate. This Is the Police

This Is the Police is an strategy/adventure game developed by Nordic Games. Taking control of a Police Chief named Jack Boyd, players will attempt to solve crime while managing a variety of responsibilities relating to running a police station. Because of the nature of some crimes this game earns its mature rating fairly easy. This is the Police is available at retail or on the Nintendo Switch eShop or at stores as a physical boxed version (see below).

Don’t Knock Twice

Another creepy psychological thriller that takes place in a haunted mansion. Players interact with just about every object in the game, as they attempt to find the main character’s daughter. A variety of violence and strong language give this horror game its mature rating.

 Wulverblade

A violent side-scrolling beat’em up that takes inspiration from classic arcade games. Features 2 player co-op along with fully illustrated 2D artwork. The game features a historically accurate storyline that pits the Northern Barbarians against the might of Rome. Wulverblade is available on the Nintendo Switch eShop now.

 BUTCHER

A blood-soaked 2D shooter, BUTCHER is another retro inspired M-rated game on the Switch. Playing as a cyborg programmed to eradicate the last of humanity, BUTCHER holds nothing back when it comes to blood & violence. BUTCHER is available now on the Nintendo Switch eShop.

 Sine Mora EX

Available now on the Nintendo Switch, Sine Mora EX is a side-scrolling shoot’em up that contains many adult themes including sexual references and strong language. This may be one of the tamest M-Rated games on this list. Sine Mora EX is available as an eShop download or a retail (physical cartridge).

Use Your Words

A multiplayer party game that has players respond to a variety of mini-games. Many of these mini-games can have adult responses which help give the title its M-Rating. Up to 1000 spectators can watch you and your friends play “Use Your Words” – so spectators beware. Use Your Words contains sexual references along with the rare ESRB label “Users Interact”. Available on the Nintendo Switch eShop now.

Vaccine

One of the first M-Rated Switch games, Vaccine is a action/adventure is a horror survival game inspired by those developed in the 90s. Vaccine runs on a time limit, which forces the player to find a vaccine in a randomly rebuilt house. Dangerous creatures, violence and blood give this eShop game its M-Rating.
