During today’s Nintendo Direct Nintendo announced a barrage of 3DS games, one of which was a new Pikmin game (no final name yet). The new Pikmin adventure will feature Olimar, and has many concepts that should be familiar to anyone who’s played the series before. The Pikmin shown in the video follow Olimar around just like the console versions (except in a 2D side-scrolling way). Players will attempt to overcome the game’s challenges by utilizing the different Pikmin following Olimar around. In the brief Nintendo Direct preview we saw Pikmin grab materials to build a bridge which safetly let Olimar and the other Pikmin make it over a huge drop. The game will leverage both 3DS screens, and is being designed to be an action game that requires fast use of the different Pikmin types. Pikmin for the Nintendo 3DS is scheduled to release sometime in 2017. Once we have a release date we’ll update this page.

Pikmin follow Olimar around, and players tap the touch screen where they want to throw them.
