ParticipantI’m looking at a 2018 Cayman this weekend and the seller seems legit but I keep hearing horror stories about people buying these cars and discovering engine or suspension issues a month later. I’ve never bought a Porsche before and honestly I don’t know what to look for beyond a test drive, which probably won’t tell me much. A friend said I should look into prepurchasecarinspection.ae/brands/porsche since they specialize in these cars, but I’m wondering if it’s overkill for a car that’s only a few years old. Has anyone here used a proper inspection service before buying and did it actually catch something you would have missed? Also how much should I expect to pay and how long does it take? I’d rather spend a bit upfront than end up with a money pit, but I also don’t want to be paranoid about every used car.
October 23, 2026 at 1:52 am in reply to: V8 service costs are scaring me, is independent really cheaper? #50401Roland Fiddament
ParticipantI’ve got a 750i that’s coming up on its big service and the dealer quote literally made me laugh out loud, then cry a little. I knew a V8 would be pricey to run but I wasn’t expecting that number for what is basically fluids and filters. A mate keeps telling me to look at bmw-garage.ae/luxury-service since he reckons a specialist independent will do the same job for noticeably less, but I’m wary of someone unfamiliar with these engines cutting corners on the expensive bits. What I want to know is whether people actually save meaningful money on a car like this or if the difference is small enough that the dealer is the safer bet. Also curious whether independents use the same spec oil and parts or if that’s where the savings come from. If you’ve got a V8 and moved away from the dealer, what did it actually cost you and did the car feel any different afterwards?
October 21, 2026 at 2:41 am in reply to: Is it worth driving to Musaffah Industrial Area for a minor service? #50379Roland Fiddament
ParticipantI need a minor service on my Renegade and I’ve been quoted a range of prices, with the cheapest options clustered around Musaffah Industrial Area. I’m wondering whether it’s worth the drive or if the savings will just get eaten up by time and fuel. I’ve been looking into Affordable minor Jeep servicing near Musaffah Industrial Area, but I’d rather hear from anyone who’s actually made the trip. Was the price genuinely better, or did you find the quality was lower to match? Also, is a minor service on a Renegade something any competent garage can do, or is it worth paying a bit more for a Jeep specialist? I’d rather not overpay, but I also don’t want to save a little and end up with a sloppy job.
October 21, 2026 at 2:06 am in reply to: Adding a new circuit for a home office, is this a straightforward job? #50377Roland Fiddament
ParticipantWe’re converting a spare room into a home office and I’ve realised there aren’t enough outlets in there for everything we need, plus the existing ones are on the same circuit as half the house so I’m nervous about overloading it. I’m wondering whether adding a dedicated circuit is a straightforward job or if it means tearing into walls and rewiring half the house. I came across https://kitchenbathpaloalto.com/locations/palo-alto/electrician while looking into it, but I’d rather understand the scope before I get anyone out. Has anyone added a new circuit for a similar reason, and did it involve a lot of disruption? Also, roughly what should I expect to pay, since I have no frame of reference for this kind of work. I’d rather know what’s normal than just accept the first quote.

ParticipantBentley ride height keeps dropping, need someone near Al Barsha who knows these cars
My Continental GT has started sitting lower than it should on one corner overnight, and although it levels out once I start it, I know this isn’t normal and it’s getting worse. I’m near Al Barsha so I’ve been looking for Top Bentley ride height repair in Al Barsha, but I’m not sure whether this is a leak, a valve block issue, or something with the compressor. Has anyone had this happen and found someone who actually diagnosed it properly rather than just replacing parts until it stopped? Also, is it safe to keep driving short distances while it’s doing this, or am I risking damage to the compressor by continuing to drive? I’d rather sort it now than let it become a much bigger bill.
October 15, 2026 at 8:35 am in reply to: Sharjah BMW owners, where do you get your cars serviced? #50324Roland Fiddament
ParticipantRecently moved to Al Nahda and my 3 Series is due for its major service plus a couple of things I’ve been putting off, like the brake fluid and a weird vibration at idle that’s been bugging me. Back in Dubai I had a garage I trusted but driving all the way there for every little thing isn’t practical anymore. I’ve been told there’s a leading BMW maintenance garage near Al Nahda, Sharjah that people in the area use, but I don’t know anyone personally who’s tried them. What I want to know is whether they handle diagnostics properly because the idle issue could be anything from a vacuum leak to ignition coils, and I’d rather not play parts roulette. Also do they use genuine parts, and is the pricing actually better than the dealer or just slightly less painful? If anyone’s got a long term relationship with a garage in this area, I’d love to hear about it before I commit.

ParticipantMy Vantage has gone flat three times in the last two months and I’m getting tired of jump starting it every weekend. The car sits in the garage most of the week and I only take it out when the weather’s decent, so I get that batteries don’t love that, but three times feels excessive. I’ve read that these cars have a fairly high parasitic drain even when parked, which would explain it, but I’d rather not just keep throwing a trickle charger at the problem if the battery itself is on its way out. I’ve seen Aston Martin battery replacement in Dubai mentioned in a couple of places and it seems there are options beyond the dealer, but I have no idea what the right battery actually is for these cars or whether it needs coding afterwards. Has anyone replaced theirs and did it solve the drain issue or was it something else causing it? Also curious if an AGM is recommended for these, because I don’t want to cheap out and end up with the same problem in six months.
